アニエスベー ギャラリー ブティックは、11月18日(土)から12月10日(日)まで、ジャマイカ系英国人の写真家デニス・モリスによる『Portraits of the King』を開催します。
本展は、数多くのミュージシャンたちのアイコニックなポートレートで知られるデニスの作品の中でも、とりわけ象徴的なレジェンド・ミュージシャンのひとり、ボブ・マーリーを捉えたポートレートの中から、26点の未公開作品で構成されます。
偉大なるボブ・マーリーから放たれる愛、喜び、希望、反抗心、そして彼の強さを感じてほしい。キングよ、永遠なれ！

本展にあわせアーティストが来日する予定です。また、展示されている作品をおさめた写真集『PORTRAITS OF THE KING』（発行：平田崇人/TANG DENG 株式会社）が、アニエスベー ギャラリー ブティックにて先行発売され、11月17日(金)および11月18日(土)にサイン会を開催します。

アーティストプロフィール
デニス・モリスは、レンズを通して非凡な人物たちに深く迫る作品群を制作する英国人フォトグラファー。音楽シーンと密接な繋がりをもつモリスは、これまでにボブ・マーリーやセックス・ピストルズ、マリアンヌ・フェイスフルのアルバム『ブロークン・イングリッシュ』のカバー写真など、象徴的で印象的な写真作品を制作している。

英国サウスオールにあるシーク教徒のコミュニティーの本質を写し出した作品は、後にイングリッシュ・ヘリテッジ（イングランドの歴史的建造物を保護する目的で英国政府により設立された組織）の買上コレクションとなった。作品集として『Bob Marley』、セックス・ピストルズの『A Rebel Life; The Bollocks』、1960～70年代の英国黒人文化を記録した『Growing Up Black』が出版されている。作品はこれまでに、今日美術館（北京）、ラフォーレミュージアム原宿（東京）、アルル国際写真フェスティバル（フランス）、フォトグラファーズギャラリー（ロンドン）、インスティテュート・オブ・コンテンポラリーアーツ（ロンドン）、テート・ブリテン（ロンドン）、メトロポリタン美術館（NY）、京都国際写真祭（日本）、ロックの殿堂（クリーブランド）など国際的に展示されている。

Agnès b gallery boutique is proud to present a solo exhibition of iconic Bob Marley portraits taken by British-Jamaican artist Dennis Morris.
The show will showcase a curated selection of 26 portraits, some never before seen. Dennis shares his thoughts on the show: “Through these photos, I hope, you, the viewer, will feel the love, joy, hope, defiance and strength radiating from the great man Bob Marley. Long live the King!”
Dennis Morris will be present for the opening evening on the 17th of November and for the two book signings scheduled for the 17th and 18th of November.
DENNIS MORRIS
Born in 1960, British artist Dennis Morris has used his camera to produce an impressive body of work on extraordinary individuals. He took up photography at the age of 9, and at 11 had work published in the major British newspaper, the Daily Mirror. In 1974 he accompanied Bob Marley on his first UK tour.
Closely associated with music, Morris has created many iconic and memorable images of musicians, including album covers for Bob Marley, the Sex Pistols, and Marianne Faithfull. His series of photographs capturing the essence of the Sikh community of Southall, England, has been acquired by British government’s English Heritage.
Several books of his work have been published, including the photobooks Bob Marley: A Rebel Life and The Bollocks, on the Sex Pistols. His work has been exhibited around the world, including at Today Art Museum in Beijing; Laforet Museum in Tokyo; Arles Photography Festival in France; The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland; and The Photographers’ Gallery, The Institute of Contemporary Arts, and Tate Britain in London.
His photographs are included in prestigious public and private collections such as Tate Britain, The National Portrait Gallery, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
