アニエスベー ギャラリー ブティックでは、4月11日（土）から5月24日（日）まで、TENGAoneによる個展『Life is Beautiful』を開催します。
TENGAoneは、祖父の家を訪れるたびに立ち寄っていた米軍基地周辺の街で、幼い頃から駐在する兵士たちが日本に持ち込んだアメリカンスタイルのグラフィティ文化に触れてきました。その影響を受け、早くからグラフィティの世界へと足を踏み入れます。近年では、ポップなキャラクターを現代社会の混乱や矛盾を象徴する「肖像」として描く一方、段ボールのように見える木材を精巧に彫り出したフェイク段ボールの彫刻作品で広く知られるようになりました。
命そのものの力強さや循環に触れたとき、人は崇高とも言える感覚を覚えます。しかし同時に、人間はその行為を日常の中でほとんど意識することなく、食を楽しみ、消費しながら生きています。命の重さと、それを無邪気に享受する欲望——一見矛盾するこの二つは、人間という存在の根源において共存しています。本展では、アーティスト自身の原初的な体験を起点に、鑑賞者がその感覚を追体験できるようなインスタレーションを中心に、平面作品や彫刻作品を交えて構成します。
アーティストステートメント
子供の頃、父の働く食品加工工場で、命が食材へと変わる光景を目にして育ちました。
それは少し怖く、同時にどこか不思議な興奮を感じるものでした。
人が働くことや食べることは、命と深くつながっています。
私たちは命をいただくことで生きています。
この展示は、命の価値と生きる力について考える試みです。
アーティストプロフィール
TENGAone｜東京を拠点に活動するストリート・アーティスト。14歳でグラフィティを始めて以来、スプレーペイントによる表現を核に、商業施設・公共空間でのミューラルからスカルプチャー、グラフィックデザインまで領域を横断し制作を続けている。Art Basel Hong Kong、Frieze New York、Kaikai Kikiでの個展、六本木アートナイトなどで作品を発表し、2019年にはニューヨークの大型展「Beyond The Streets」に参加。同年、ComplexConにも参加。

agnès b. galerie boutique is pleased to present Life is Beautiful, a solo exhibition by TENGAone, on view from 11 April to 24 May.
TENGAone first encountered American-style graffiti culture in the streets surrounding a U.S. military base, which he frequently visited as a child when going to see his grandfather. There he came into contact with the tagging and throw-up styles brought to Japan by stationed soldiers. Immersed in this environment from an early age, he soon entered the world of graffiti. In recent years, TENGAone has become widely recognised for his distinctive practice. Alongside paintings featuring pop characters that function as symbolic “portraits” reflecting the contradictions and turbulence of contemporary society, he has developed a body of sculptural works in which wood is meticulously carved to resemble discarded cardboard boxes. These works blur the boundary between appearance and material, transforming everyday objects into quietly disorienting presences.
When confronted with the force and cyclical nature of life itself, we may experience something akin to the sublime. Yet in our daily lives this awareness is often absent; we continue to eat, consume and take pleasure in living almost unconsciously. The gravity of life and the innocent desire to partake in it—two seemingly contradictory impulses—coexist at the very core of human existence. Taking the artist’s own primal experiences as its point of departure, the exhibition is centred on an installation that invites viewers to retrace these sensations. Paintings and sculptural works are presented alongside it, forming an environment in which visitors are encouraged to reflect on the complex relationship between life, desire and consumption.
Artist Statement
When I was a child, I often visited the food processing factory where my father worked.
There, I witnessed the moment when life was transformed into food.
It was a little frightening, yet at the same time strangely fascinating.
Working and eating are both deeply connected to life itself.
We live by receiving the lives of other beings.
This exhibition is an attempt to reflect on the value of life and the strength that sustains it.
Artist Profile
TENGAone is a Tokyo-based street artist. Since beginning graffiti at the age of fourteen, he has continued to develop a practice centred on spray-painted expression, working across a wide range of media including murals in commercial and public spaces, sculpture, and graphic design.His work has been presented internationally at venues and events such as Art Basel Hong Kong, Frieze New York, and a solo exhibition at Kaikai Kiki Gallery. He has also participated in major art events including Roppongi Art Night. In 2019, he took part in the large-scale New York exhibition Beyond the Streets, and in the same year participated in ComplexCon.
