アニエスベー ギャラリー ブティックは、9月12日（土）から11月８日（日）まで、『GOKITA RECORDS 五木田智央の妄想レコードジャケット』を開催いたします。
国内にとどまらず、海外のリーディングギャラリーや美術館においても作品を発表し、国際的な評価を確立してきた五木田智央。その表現の根底には、イラストレーション、マンガ、プロレス、そしてレコードといったサブカルチャーへの深い愛着があります。1990年代後半以降、Towa Tei、YMO、METAFIVEをはじめとする数多くのミュージシャンのレコードやCDジャケットを手掛けてきたことも、ファインアートとは異なる文脈で、五木田の名をより広く知らしめる重要な役割を果たしてきました。
本展のタイトルの由来となった『Gokita Records』は、五木田が2002年から2018年にかけて制作し、2018年の個展『PEEKABOO』(東京オペラシティギャラリー)で発表したシリーズです。レコードジャケットをフォーマットとして制作された本シリーズは、五木田自身の趣味や嗜好、そしてユーモアによって構想されたものであり、描かれたモチーフと楽曲との間に、必然的な結びつきはありません。サブカルチャーとの遊び心に満ちた関わりから生まれたこの作品群は、レコードジャケットとしてだけでなく、絵画としても独自の強度を備えています。
本展では、『Gokita Records』の制作方法を引き継ぎながら新たに描き下ろされた、実在しないレコードジャケット「妄想ジャケット」シリーズの100点以上におよぶ新作を一堂に展示します。
イラストレーションと絵画の境界を軽やかに行き来する五木田の作品世界を、「妄想ジャケット」の新作とともにお楽しみください。

1969年東京生まれ、同地を拠点に活動。90年代後半に鉛筆、木炭やインクで紙に描いたドローイング作品で注目を集め、2000年に作品集『ランジェリー・レスリング』を出版。ニューヨークでの展覧会を皮切りに、これまで国内外で多数の個展を開催。2012年にDIC川村記念美術館にて開催された「抽象と形態：何処までも顕れないもの」展に参加し、2014年には同美術館にて個展「THE GREAT CIRCUS」を開催。近年の個展に「PEEKABOO」東京オペラシティアートギャラリー(2018年)、「Get Down」ダラス・コンテンポラリー(2021年)、「GUMBO」ICAミラノ(2024年)などがある。『シャッフル鉄道唱歌』天然文庫刊(2010年)、『777』888ブックス刊(2015年)、『Holy Cow』タカ・イシイギャラリー刊(2017年)、『PEEKABOO』公益財団法人 東京オペラシティ文化財団刊(2018年)、『MOO』タカ・イシイギャラリー刊(2021年)、『Diary』888ブックス刊(2022年)などの作品集、展覧会カタログを出版。

agnès b. galerie boutique is pleased to present GOKITA RECORDS: Tomoo Gokita’s Fantasy Record Sleeves.
Tomoo Gokita has established an international reputation, presenting his work not only in Japan but also at leading galleries and museums overseas. At the heart of his artistic practice lies a deep affection for subcultures — illustration, manga, professional wrestling and records. Since the late 1990s, he has created record and CD sleeves for numerous musicians, including Towa Tei, YMO and METAFIVE. This work, developed in a context distinct from the fine art world, has also played an important role in bringing Gokita’s name to a wider audience.
Gokita Records, from which this exhibition takes its title, is a series produced by Gokita between 2002 and 2018 and presented in his 2018 solo exhibition PEEKABOO at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery. Created using the record sleeve as a format, the series was conceived from Gokita’s own personal tastes and sense of humour, with no necessary connection between the motifs depicted and the music itself. Born from a playful engagement with subculture, these works possess their own distinct strength not only as record sleeves but also as paintings.
This exhibition brings together more than 100 new works from the “Fantasy Record Sleeves” series, newly created using the same approach as Gokita Records. These are imaginary record sleeves for records that do not exist.

Artist Profile
Tomoo Gokita
Born in Tokyo in 1969, where he continues to be based. He gained attention in the late 1990s for drawings made in pencil, charcoal and ink on paper, and published his first collection, Lingerie Wrestling, in 2000. Following an exhibition in New York, he has since held numerous solo shows both in Japan and abroad. In 2012 he took part in Abstraction and Form: What Never Fully Appears at the DIC Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art, and in 2014 held a solo exhibition, The Great Circus, at the same museum. Recent solo exhibitions include Peekaboo at Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery (2018), Get Down at Dallas Contemporary (2021) and Gumbo at ICA Milano (2024). He has published numerous collections and exhibition catalogues, including Shuffle Tetsudo Shoka (Tennen Bunko, 2010), 777 (888 Books, 2015), Holy Cow (Taka Ishii Gallery, 2017), Peekaboo (Tokyo Opera City Cultural Foundation, 2018), MOO (Taka Ishii Gallery, 2021) and Diary (888 Books, 2022).
Special Collaboration with Tomoo Gokita
Silkscreen T-shirts & Craft Beer Launching
To mark the exhibition, a special collaboration range with Tomoo Gokita will be available.
The T-shirts, featuring artwork created especially for the occasion, are silkscreen-printed by hand, one at a time, and available exclusively at the venue. Each shirt carries the subtle variations in texture and finish that only hand-printing can produce — a quality no machine can replicate — making every piece a little different.
To coincide with the exhibition, agnès b. will also release two original craft beers for a limited time under the name "gokita beer", presented in original cans featuring Tomoo Gokita's artwork. These will be sold exclusively at the ground floor of agnès b. Galerie Boutique, Aoyama.
Both items are available only at the venue, so do come and enjoy them alongside the exhibition itself.
